Control

Everyone is equal and deserves to have their say over their own destiny

Time shows us again and again how man’s hunger for power and dominance is played out.  A leader sees something they want, they take it.   These events have created history and by dominion, it has also defined a man’s destiny.

While today we live in a more sophisticated civilisation these principles are still being applied.  You would not be wrong by saying the destiny of the many is in the hands of the very few.  If we’re to create a Utopian world, we need to shift the balance.  If we are to have a say in our destiny, we must first take our power back.

But is it really about taking the power back?  We know the difference between a dictator who takes power and an inspiring leader who empowers us. It is the difference between control and freedom, despair and hope, depression and expression, fear and confidence.  So are we wanting to take control or gain freedom?

If we think about our personal lives, we can also be led to take power to gain control.  There are those driven by fear of failure who need to control every situation or every aspect of their lives but without freedom this can often stifle the creator within.  This constraint we place on ourselves impacts our way of learning, being open to receiving new knowledge through learning from others and often results in limiting our capabilities, missing opportunities left-field, those that come outside of the box.

If we think about the environment around us, controlling the situation also constrains those around us, telling them how to do something instead of allowing them freedom to use their own creativeness.  We’re in fact taking power not empowering.

It takes courage to let go of control but in doing so you’ll find the release itself is a freeing process which brings an inner strength.  It’s not a matter of taking back control but gaining freedom of your ‘true’ power and empowering those around you.  For if we are to achieve Utopia we must empower the many to have say over their own destiny.

SOME THOUGHTS YOU MAY HAVE WHEN UNDERUSING CONTROL ON YOURSELF ARE:

  • It just comes over me, I can’t control it

  • I have no control over anything in my life

  • I’ll be better off if someone else is in control

  • I’m just a victim in all of this, it’s not my fault

  • I’m being controlled therefore I need to control (even if it’s in a very small way)

SOME THOUGHTS YOU MAY HAVE WHEN OVERUSING CONTROL ON YOURSELF ARE:

  • I must control every aspect of my life

  • My life must be mapped out to the enth degree

  • The only way to get somewhere is to plan for it

  • Everything I’ve achieved I’ve had to create myself

SOME THOUGHTS YOU MAY HAVE WHEN OVERUSING CONTROL ON OTHERS ARE:

  • If only they’d do what I say everything will work out

  • You get the best out of people and societies by leading through controlling others and limiting their freedom (wars, religion, etc)

  • Give people too much choice and they’ll make the wrong decision

  • The world owes me

  • Because of my role everyone does as I say e.g. I am the man of the house/the elder/the parent etc

  • I’ll take what you’ve got because I can

  • I know more than they do

  • Having everyone know I’m in control makes me feel recognised and therefore worthy

  • I need to be in control of others to find my place in the world
